Why Little Gifties? My Story
Hi, I'm Nalisha.
Before Little Gifties, I spent over 10 years as an Account Director in advertising. I poured my heart and soul into my career, but everything changed when I became a mum.
After having my first baby while living in Sydney, away from my closest family and friends, I experienced one of the happiest times of my life. It was also one of the loneliest.
One day, two cousins flew over from New Zealand to meet our baby. They arrived with thoughtful gifts, not only for our little one, but for me too.
I still remember how that made me feel.
It wasn't about how much they'd spent or even what was inside the box. It was the simple fact that someone had remembered there was a new mum behind the newborn. At a time when so much of the attention naturally goes to the baby, I felt seen too.
A little while later, I returned to work, and if I'm honest, I found that transition incredibly difficult.
I wasn't the same person who had left before maternity leave. Becoming a mum had changed me, yet it felt like everyone expected me to return as though nothing had happened. To simply pick up where I'd left off.
Like many new mums, I found myself trying to balance expressing schedules, childcare and the emotional weight of leaving my baby for the first time, while also wanting to show up professionally.
It was no easy feat.
I don't think my workplace intended to make that transition difficult. Looking back, I simply don't think they knew how to support someone returning to work after having a baby.
That experience stayed with me.
Today, alongside Little Gifties, I also own an early childhood education centre, where I spend every day talking to families with young children. It reminds me constantly how much thoughtful support, no matter how small, can mean during this season of life.
That's why Little Gifties exists.
We partner with organisations because I believe every employee deserves to feel seen, valued and supported throughout their parental leave journey, not just when their baby arrives, but when they return to work too.
A thoughtful gift won't solve every challenge of becoming a parent. But it does send a powerful message.
We see you. We value you. You still belong here.
That's the difference we hope to help organisations and people create, one thoughtful gift at a time.
